THE PROJECT
The launch trailer for Kybo, a one-on-one strategy game that thinks in three dimensions. On a
wooden board mounted on a rotating platform and divided into four concentric zones, each player
places their cubes, white or black, to trace a continuous path from one edge of the board to the other
through edge connections. The ability to stack cubes, increasingly restricted the further you move
from the center, turns the game into a duel of building and blocking in height, where players spin
the board to always keep the full picture in view.

MY ROLE
I single-handedly created all of the trailer's imagery, under the direction of Stéphane Bernasconi, the
film's director and editor and founder of Marzipan, with whom I exchanged regularly to design and
validate the shots. I modeled the board, its rotating platform and the cube tokens, created the
textures in Substance Painter and Photoshop to capture the feel of the wood and pieces, then
handled the animation, lighting and rendering in Blender with Cycles, before compositing the shots
in After Effects. The entire image-making chain, from the first model to the composited shot, passed
through my hands.
Alongside the film, I also created the game's packshot visuals on my own: full staged scenes where
the open box, the board and the cubes take their place in a lived-in interior, down to the branded
merchandise in frame. A work of composition, material and light designed for the game's marketing. This kind of end-to-end 3D production is very much in line with my custom 3D creation work, close in spirit to what I built earlier on Mineral Trap.
