THE PROJECT
Mineral Trap is a personal industrial science fiction project built around a miner of the future.
Strapped into a heavy drilling armor, he ventures deep into a cave in search of precious minerals,
splitting the rock with his metal fists, until a collapse leaves him trapped. An oppressive
underground world, lit only by the glow of the minerals.

MY ROLE
I created this project entirely on my own, from start to finish. It rests on two distinct characters that
I fully handled: the miner and his drilling armor, each modeled, textured and rigged. The armor was
given particular care in its character design, down to the hammer-fists built to break through rock,
with a worn texturing job done in Substance Painter that gives it the look of rusted equipment
battered by hard labor. A key moment of the project lies in the armor opening up to reveal the miner
it shelters, which meant designing the two characters as a single coherent whole. I then handled the
entire shot-production chain: modeling and rigging in Maya, animation of the shots, lighting and
rendering in Arnold, and final compositing in Nuke. This personal project remains one of my best examples of custom 3D creation, in the same line as what I later developed on Kybo.
