THE PROJECT
A Samsung brand campaign launched for the 10th anniversary of Galaxy smartphones, built around
the idea "What we create today", what we create today shapes the future. Set to Doris Day's "Que
Sera Sera," the film moves through a string of situations where characters put their Galaxy devices'
wide range of capabilities to use : augmented reality, drawing, gaming. The climax: a virtual-reality
monster materializes in a smoke-filled street, faced down by a group filming it through their
smartphones.
MY ROLE
I handled the rigging of the creature that appears at the end of the film. The challenge: an efficient
biped rig whose deformations honor the creature's imposing silhouette while giving animators a
wide range of movement. Above all, it was extensive skinning work and deliberate joint placement
that made this rig both believable, the creature's mass and presence read in every pose and easy for
the animation team to handle. Built in Maya. This creature rig ties into my character work for advertising, in the same vein as what I developed on PlayStation Now.
