THE PROJECT
The second season of House of the Dragon, the HBO prequel to Game of Thrones, adapted from
George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood. Set roughly two centuries before the events of Game of
Thrones, it charts the war of succession tearing House Targaryen apart, the Dance of the Dragons,
against a backdrop of aerial battles between winged mounts. Pixomondo handled previsualization,
virtual production and dragon animation for the series.
MY ROLE
I worked as Lead Asset Builder within Pixomondo's previsualisation department. There I handled
the modeling, sculpting, texturing and rigging of many types of assets: characters, sets and props.
The bulk of my work served the Battle of Rook's Rest, the season's major sequence, a large-scale
aerial clash between dragons above a besieged castle. These previs assets formed a foundation for
the production, later taken over and refined by the modeling teams toward the series' final version.
Modeling, sculpting and rigging were done in Maya and ZBrush, textures in Substance Painter and
Photoshop. As lead, I supervised a team of artists, guiding them in carrying out their tasks properly. This previs mission ties into my environment work for film and television, directly continuing what I did on Halo for the same team at Pixomondo.
